Maedeh Emtiaz, a contemporary artist born in Tehran, earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a specialization in Textile Print Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She worked for several years as a textile print designer for American and European manufacturers before shifting her creative focus to fine art in 2005, upon returning to Tehran. During this time, she also taught Visual Art and Art History at the German Embassy School of Tehran. She has since showcased her paintings in numerous successful solo exhibitions at esteemed galleries in Tehran.
Her current collection reflects personal experiences with cultural and social identity, drawing significant influence from her background in textile print design. Maedeh primarily paints with acrylics on canvas, employing layered brushwork that conveys a striking sense of spontaneity and rhythm. She creates dreamlike images filled with intricate patterns, textures, and vibrant colors, resembling woven tapestries imbued with deep-rooted emotions.
Maedeh describes this collection:
“I am a textile surface designer who paints stylized figurative images layered with intricate patterns and textures, composed of words, symbols, and elements of nature in emotive colors. I am inspired by the stories we tell ourselves—narratives shaped by personal experiences and memories that, over time, we come to accept as truth. Through my artwork, I explore the universal cycle of loss, renewal, and regeneration that defines the human condition. Each painting in this collection presents a visual narrative that challenges conformity to cultural identities, encouraging viewers to explore life’s enigma with curiosity and thoughtful reflection.”
